So your child is ready for potty training. There are a lot of things you need to take into consideration, but the first thing is what is the equipment, you’ll use.
There are: potty chairs, pull-ups pans, trainer pants, toilet step stools, training seats. In this guide, I’m not going to talk about all of them, but there are some essentials tools you will have to use, no matter what system you’ll choose to train your child.
The essential tools for potty training
- A toilet paper – Not a regular one. You need a toilet paper that is right for toddlers and flash-able.
- A soap –You may think it stupid to put it here, but, hygiene is an important part of the potty training process. So you need a soap that will encourage your child to wash his or her hands after using the potty. Choose a friendly looking soap and even take your child to shop for it with you.
- A potty training chart – to keep track of your child’s progress, and success, you can use a calendar (potty training chart). It’s also a way of motivating your child to continue with the training.
- Rewards – Yes, I know many of you don’t like the idea of rewarding your child for something they need to do. Personally, I believe your child is doing a big change of a big habit, and rewarding at least at the beginning will help a lot. The rewards don’t need to be anything big. They could get pretty stickers or a tiny piece of candy every time they make it to the bathroom. I will talk about rewarding later on, but for now, you need to know that every small victory, deserve a reward.
- A timer watch – As you will read later on, the first stage of potty training is to remind your child to go to the potty. You need to remember that at the beginning your child won’t know when to go, so you’ll need to remind them about every 20 minutes. A timer watch will come very handy here.
- Pull ups – I don’t like them, but it can be useful to use them for long car ride
So now that you know the essential tools for the potty training, you can choose the potty.
